How Lightning Front follows a lightning event
Lightning is not “seen” by a single antenna. The network calculates a location from the same radio signal reaching several receivers.
Receivers listen
A lightning event produces a very short radio pulse. Stations such as 3279 record its precise arrival time.
The network calculates
Differences in arrival time determine the location. Select a strike to inspect the participating station lines.
Lightning forms clusters
Nearby lightning events are grouped into an active storm cell every five minutes.
Movement gains context
Earlier and recent positions provide direction, speed and a broad uncertainty zone. Rain and wind add context.
